Over 2 quintal cannabis seized from Patna-Puri Express, 1 held

Cuttack: Tightening the noose around the necks of illegal drug traders, the Cuttack district Excise squad seized over two quintals of cannabis from Patna-Puri Express train late last night and arrested one person in connection with its transportation.

Excise Department got a tip-off on the cannabis consignment at around 1 AM in the night and ordered its officials for a raid. A team of officials who raided the Express after it made an halt at the Cuttack Railway Station, found the accused identified as Manas Ranjan Jena with suspicious bags and checked those.

During the check the bags were found carrying cannabis in huge quantities and were seized. The accused was taken into custody subsequently.

Excise officials said, during his interrogation the accused has revealed that the consignment was being transported to Gandhipalli area in Cuttack and Haldiapalli area in Bhubaneswar from Patna. The seized drug would cost over Rs 2 lakh.

The interrogation of the accused is underway to find out whether any bigger racket is involved in the case or not.
