OSAP jawan held on rape charge in Gajapati

Paralakhemundi: Rayagada Police today arrested an Odisha Special Armed Police (OSAP) jawan on charges of raping a married woman in Christian Sahi area near R Udaygiri in Gajapati district.
The accused jawan has been identified as Ishwar Mali. Mali works as a Sepoy in the OSAP 3rd Battalion.
Informing on the arrest at a press conference today, Gajapati SP Amulya Kumar Das said the accused jawan was nabbed by a five-member team of Rayagada Police from Vijayawada town of neighbouring Andhra Pradesh State. He has been put under suspension by his department, Dash added.
As per the complaint lodged by the victim to Rayagada Police, Ishwar barged into her house located in Rayagada village late in the night on January 16. Taking advantage of her husband’s absence, the accused outraged her modesty. He left the victim with a note of warning to not disclose the incident to anybody.
The victim lodged a complaint to police only after her husband returned home on January 21.
Rayagada Police had formed a five-member special team under IIC Gopi Pradhan to investigate the case.
Notably, Malkangiri Police had arrested a BSF jawan from Murshidabad area in West Bengal State last Monday after he impregnated and cheated a girl in the district on the pretext of marriage.
