Orissa HC refuses to intervene in ASO Exam rescheduling issue

Cuttack: In a major disappointment to lakhs of candidates aspiring to appear in Railway Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP) and Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) Clerk Main examinations, the Orissa High Court today refused to put a stay on the Assistant Section Officer (ASO) test conducted by Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC).

While hearing a plea seeking the rescheduling of the examination, the High Court distanced itself in any kind of interference and allowed the Commission to go ahead with the schedule.

Notably, as per a notification released by OPSC on September 20, 2018 it had to conduct the competitive examination on December 23 in the same year, to fill-up 500 ASO vacancies under lying vacant in Group B of Odisha Secretariat Service under Home Department. However, the Commission postponed the examination a few days before its slated date.

While, the move drew flak from job aspirants across the state, they tried to gherao the OPSC office on January 7 this year, led by BJP leaders Sameer Dey and other saffron party activists. They claimed that the clash of exam schedules of OPSC ASO, RRB ALP and IBPS Clerk Main on January 20 will create problem for them.

Later, Congress alleged corruption behind rescheduling of the exam and held a press conference on January 11 to claim that due to the wrong decision of the Commission around 10,000 students from Odisha who would appear ALP examination and 3,000 students who would sit for IBPS Clerk Main test will not be able to go for ASO test.
