Orissa HC disqualifies Congress MLA Jogesh Singh

Cuttack: In a big jolt to Congress party in the state, the Orissa High Court on Tuesday disqualified Sundergarh MLA Jogesh Kumar Singh from being a Member of Odisha Legislative Assembly over submission of fake caste certificate during 2014 general elections.

In 2014, Jogesh was elected on a Congress ticket from Sundargarh Assembly constituency, a reserved seat for Scheduled Tribes (ST).

However, defeated BJD candidate Kusum Tete and BJP candidate Sahadev Xaxa had moved the High Court seeking declaration of the election of Singh as null and void on the ground that the caste certificate submitted by the Congress MLA was false and mala fide.

Speaking to Kalinga TV regarding the High Court’s verdict, Singh said that he has complete faith in judiciary and will soon approach the Supreme Court in this regard.
