Orissa HC Directs To Rehear Gunupur Triple Murder Case

Cuttack: Orissa High Court has directed the Court of Additional District Judge (ADJ) in Rayagada district to rehear the sensational Gunupur triple murder case.

A division bench of Orissa High Court had earlier reserved its judgment on the death penalty awarded to nine persons after completing fresh scrutiny of the prosecution case with a re-examination of the statements of the informant, 11 witnesses and related documents.

In September 2016, three persons of a family, including a man, his wife and daughter were brutally killed on suspicion of practicing witchcraft. Blaming the family for various diseases affecting the villagers, locals had attacked the family members and burnt them alive.

Subsequently in April last year the Additional District and Sessions Judge Court, Gunupur had awarded death sentence to nine persons.
