Bhubaneswar, Apr 04: A week after senior BJD MP Tathagata Satpathy claimed that BJP is trying AIADMK-type split in his party, senior BJP leader and Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram on Tuesday revealed that many ruling BJD MPs, MLAs and leaders including some senior ones are in constant touch with the BJP leadership and contemplating to join the saffron party.

Oram’s claim revealed the saffron party’s hidden agenda to focus on Odisha in the 2019 general election which has provoked many BJD leaders to mull over joining the BJP as anticipated by BJD Lok Sabha Chief Whip Satpathy.

“BJP never tried to divide any party; rather other parties have internal conflict. Besides, following our (BJP’s) remarkable victory in the assembly elections in four states and Panchayat election in Odisha recently, leaders cutting across party lines find now BJP as an alternative. Many BJD MPs, MLAs and senior leaders are in constant touch with us (BJP leadership) and contemplating to join,” said Oram to the reporters.

The lone BJP Lok Sabha MP from the state said, the proposed national executive meeting will give a further boost to them.

Reacting to Oram’s claim, BJD spokesperson Surya Narayan Patra said, “If anyone has given any statement, it is their personal and not that of the party. It is their personal interest to join any party but there is no intraparty dispute in BJD. The party stands in number one position in the state and will form the largest majority government in 2019 general election. Besides, we have drawn the strategies to root out the BJP from the state.”
