Online gambling racket busted in Sambalpur, 3 arrested

Sambalpur: In a crackdown on illegal online gambling in Sambalpur, police have arrested at least three persons and seized cash worth over Rs 8000 along with computers and other electronic items from their possession by conducting raids at different places yesterday.

The held persons have been identified as Sanjay Mahanand, Mohan Oram and Hanif Khan.

“The raid was conducted simultaneously by the special squad of Sambalpur Police assisted by Kshetarajpur and Ainthapali police last evening. During the raid Sanjay was arrested from Bareipali Chhak with Rs 3720 in cash and computer accessories. Later, Mohan and Hanif were taken into custody from Ainthapalli Chhak and Kshetarajpur with Rs 2200 and Rs 2400 in cash along with computers,” said Bhabani Shankar Udgata, SDPO, Sambalpur.

Cases under Sections 294 (A) and 420 along with 4 and 5 of Prize Prize Chits and Money Circulation Schemes (Banning) Act have been lodged against all the held persons and they have been forwarded to court.

Similar raids will be conducted in the district in the coming days, informed police.
