Onion Price Likely To Increase Further In Odisha; Food and Civil Supplies Minister

Bhubaneswar: The price of onion is likely to increase by Rs 6-10 per kg in the coming days, said Food and Civil Supplies Minister, Ranendra Pratap Swain today.

At present, onion is being sold at Rs 60 per kg in the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar.

“Onion price will further go up by Rs 6-10 as rain in Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Karnataka have affected the supply of onion to Odisha,” said Swain.

Traders in Chhatrabazar, Cuttack and Unit I daily market, Bhubaneswar attributed the price rise to fall in production and crop loss due to rain in Nasik in Maharastra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, the major source of imports to the state.

“We will discuss with traders about the onion price hike and set up centres to provide the bulb vegetable at a subsidised rate. The government will take measures which will suit best to the people,” Swain added.
