One Quintal Ganja Seized In Kandhamal, Three Arrested

Kandhamal: Phiringia police today seized one quintal ganja from an autorickshaw near Dindiragaon in the district and arrested three persons in this connection.

The accused have been identified as Jitendra Digal (30), Bundu Pradhan (32), both residents of Kandhamal and Dipun Chinnara (28), a native of Nayagarh district.

Police said that the contraband was being transported to Nayagarh from Kandhamal. “We intercepted the vehicle and found three gunny bags stashed with cannabis. We have also seized the autorickshaw and a motorcycle used in the transportation of the ganja,’ said a police official.

Police said that ganja is mainly cultivated in districts such as Angul, Sambalpur, Boudh, Kandhamal, Malkangiri and Rayagada.

“Ganja grown in Southern districts is smuggled to Bengal and Bihar through Bhubaneswar. We have been keeping a close watch on transport and private vehicles to detect cases of ganja transportation,’ said a police official.
