One Nation, One Election: BJD to Meet Law Commission Today

Bhubaneswar: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) will place its stand on the proposed idea of “One Nation, One Election” or simultaneous polls to the Lok Sabha and the State assemblies before the Law Commission today.

The regional party of Odisha, which supports holding simultaneous elections to the Lok Sabha and state Assemblies, will be represented by Puri MP Pinaki Mishra.

Odisha Chief Minister and Biju Janata Dal President Naveen Patnaik had earlier spoken out in support of holding simultaneous elections. “Elections throughout the year disturb developmental work. Therefore, we support simultaneous polls”, he said.

On June 14, the Law Commission, in its letter to chief minister Naveen Patnaik, had had sought his party’s opinion on the proposal.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi coined the idea of “One Nation, One Election” and called for a constructive decision in this regard.
