‘Olly’ becomes permanent mascot for all sports events in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Odisha government has decided to make ‘Olly’, the mascot of Asian Athletics Championship (AAC)-2017, as the permanent mascot for all sports events to be held in the state.

Informing about the move, Sports and Youth Services Secretary Vishal Dev said that ‘Olly’ will be the permanent mascot for all sports events both national and international championships to be held in the state with suitable variations depending on the events.

With this development, ‘Olly’ will now be the official mascot for the upcoming World Hockey League finals scheduled to be kicked off from December this year and the Hockey World Cup in November 2018.

Notably, ‘Olly’ represents the rare Olive Ridley sea turtle that is found in large numbers at Rushikulya and Gahirmatha beaches along Odisha coast.
