Oil price hike fuels ruckus in Odisha AssemblyBhubaneswar: The Odisha Assembly continued to witness ruckus even on the final day of the ongoing Monsoon session with Congress MLAs protesting against the frequent hikes in the prices of petrol and diesel.

The opposition legislators wore aprons featuring slogans against price hike and a picture of Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Led by Congress Chief Whip Tara Prasad Bahinipati, the Congress MLAs created an uproar forcing Speaker Pradip Amat to adjourn the House till 3 PM.

Alleging that central excise duty on petroleum products had been increased 11 times in the past three and half years, the Congress party has decided to launch a nationwide agitation on fuel price hike next week.

The ruling BJD has also decided to hold demonstrations in all sub-divisions of the state from Monday against the oil price hike.

Petrol price has been hiked by Rs. 6 per litre since the beginning of July and is now priced at its highest rate in three years with rates being revised in small doses daily. Diesel price has increased by Rs. 3.67 a litre, the highest in four months.
