Odisha’s Similipal National Park closed due to heavy rains

Mayurbhanj: The Similipal National Park in Mayurbhanj district of Odisha remained closed for tourists today also, informed Similipal National Park authorities.

Reportedly, the national park was closed for visitors for two days on December 4 and December 5 due to the impending Cyclone JAWAD following which it has remained closed due to continuous heavy rainfall.

The decision has been taken as a precautionary measure, said Similipal authorities.

The Similipal National Park, located in northern Odisha, is spread over 2750 sq-km, famous for its flawless beauty due to its variety of plants and animals, which attracts tourists.

It is located at a height of more than 1,000 meters above sea level, hence the place receives heavy rainfall maximum of the days. The effects of the cyclone have been felt in various parts of the Simlipal National Park.

However, the tourists will be allowed for an overnight stay, informed Chief Forest Officer.

On the other hand, Kulipal in Similipal National Park has recorded the highest rainfall of 47.752 mm between 6 pm and 6 pm.
