Odisha: Youth injured in bear attack at Nandankanan

Bhubaneswar: A youth reportedly injured at Nandankanan Zoological Park in the capital city of Odisha on Wednesday after a bear attacked him in the Bear Safari area. He has been admitted to a private hospital.

As per reports, at about 5.15 pm on Wednesday some visitors had gone inside the Bear Safari in a Safari bus accompanied by a guide when a bear came close to the bus. When the guide was trying to feed the bear a biscuit the bear had attacked on his palm. Resultantly, the guide’s hand got seriously injured.

“As informed, one of the “Guides” named Tulu Behera got injury in palm while deliberately feeding some food stuffs to a wild bear in the Bear Safari from the back seat of a safari bus. The Safari bus staffs took him to the hospital,” said a note from the Deputy Director of Nandankanan.

As per reports, the DD has called the safari service providers for a meeting again to emphasise on the Dos and Don’ts to visitors and the particular guide will be warned in writing and others will be sensitised on this. Streamlining of zoo volunteers/guide systems is under progress so to make guides more professional and well behaved, the note also said.
