Odisha youth held for staging fake Rs 18 lakh loot

Cuttack: Khuntuni Police on Wednesday arrested a 29-year-old youth for staging a fake loot of Rs 18 lakh yesterday and lodged a false police complaint in Odisha’s Cut tack district.

The accused, identified as Santosh Kumar Raj who works as marketing manager of Gutkha Company, was arrested under Sections 409, 420 and 203 of the IPC on charges of cheating, misappropriation of money of the company where he was working and providing false information in respect of an offence.

On Tuesday, Santosh had lodged a police complaint alleging that four bike-borne miscreants looted Rs 18 lakh from him at gunpoint on NH-55 near Radhakishapur flyover under Khuntuni police limits in the district when he was coming from Dhenkanal’s Kaimati to Bhubaneswar after collecting cash from various pan masala dealers.

However, Santosh’s lie was exposed when he faltered and failed to provide exact details of incident to police.

Later, Khuntuni Police conducted search at his house at Harkrushnapur in Dhenkanal, during which Rs 15,30,000 was found concealed under a mattress.

The accused also disclosed that he had given Rs 2,66,000 to one Rakesh Sahoo, which has also been seized by police. A total of Rs 17,96,895 has been recovered in the case, police said.
