Odisha: Woman’s body carried on sling for 40 kms in Malkangiri

Malkangiri: The poverty ratio might have come down in Odisha but people in backward area like Malkangiri, are yet to overcome from the problem of poverty.

In yet another instance of poverty, the body of a woman was carried by her family members on a sling for nearly 40 kms as they couldn’t hire a vehicle or ambulance.

According to reports, one Mude Kalmari of Temurupalli village under Mathili block in the district fell ill following which her family members rushed her to a Mathili CHC.

However, the doctors present at the hospital allegedly expressed the inability to treat Mude.

The family members couldn’t take Mude to other hospital due to poverty; instead they took her near a sorcerer in Guruguda for treatment where the woman succumbed to her illness.

The poverty-stricken family members couldn’t even hire vehicle to carry the body to their village. They were forced to carry the body on shoulders for 40 km to reach their village.
