Odisha: Woman loses Rs 11,000 to cyber fraud while buying smartphone online

Bhubaneswar: A young woman has lost Rs 11,000 to cyber-criminals while she was trying to buy a mobile phone online in capital city Bhubaneswar.

According to sources, the victim was living in Vani bihar area of the capital city. A few days earlier, she saw an advertisement on the anonymous website that said, ” If you register for Rs 500, you will get an expensive mobile phone.” She got attracted by the promising offer and called the number given on it.

After she contacting the number, the cyber fraudster told her to register her name and pay Rs 500 in order to get the mobile phone. Later, the cyber fraudster demanded Rs 1,500 from him. However, even after paying Rs 1,500, the young woman did not get the mobile phone.

Later, he again demanded Rs 5,000 for the mobile phone. In this way, the cyber-fraud looted a total of Rs 11,000 from the girl. After losing the Rs 11,000 money, the girl realized she has fall prey to cyber-fraud and lodged a complaint with the Bhubaneswar Cyber ​​Cell yesterday.
