Odisha woman, dead 9 months ago, receives Covid jab

Jharsuguda: A dead woman has reportedly received the second dose of the Covishield Covid vaccine in Jharsuguda district. The the 88-year-old deceased woman has been identified as Leela Soni.

Such an incident came to light after the deceased woman’s family received a message of the covid vaccination certificate.

According to sources, Leela was a resident of Jharsuguda town. She died on April 1, 2021.

She had received her first dose of Covid jab about a month before her death on March 3, 2021. However, on January 21, 2022, a text message has been received on the registered mobile number stating that she has successfully taken the second dose of Covishield vaccine. The vaccination certificate has also been issued in her name.

On being asked, the Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) Dolamani Patel said that the errors might have been caused due to some technical and server problems during the online entries. “However an investigation will surely take place in this regard,” he said.

Notably, a similar incident took place in Sundargarh’s Biramitrapur town where a dead man received a message about the second dose of Covishield vaccine. The incident came to light after social activist Kunal Gourav posted about the goof-up on social media platforms.
