Subarnapur: A woman and her 3-year-old daughter lost their limbs after being run over by a goods train at Rampur level crossing in the district this afternoon.
The injured have been identified as Lalita Nayak (35), wife of Paramananda Nayak of Andharibanchhi village and her daughter Lucy.
Eyewitnesses said that the woman with her daughter jumped in front of the train. “The woman lost her right limb and also sustained head injuries. The kid also lost her limb. They were rescued by fire personnel,” said an eyewitness.
The victims were immediately rushed to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Dunguripali from where they were shifted to VSS Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), Burla.
The reason of the woman taking such an extreme step is yet to be ascertained.
