Odisha weather update: IMD issues rain warning for these districts, check details

Bhubaneswar: The regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) here on Sunday predicted light to moderate rainfall over several districts of Odisha for November 17 and 18.

“Yesterday’s low pressure area over south Andaman sea & adjoining Thailand coast moved slightly west-northwestwards and lay over central parts of Andaman sea today. It persisted over the same region at and is likely to move west-northwestwards and become well marked over north Andaman Sea & adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal by November15. Thereafter it is likely to continue to move west– northwestwards across east-central & adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal, concentrate into a depression over west-central Bay of Bengal by November 17 and reach near south Andhra Pradesh coast around November 18, 2021,” said the weather department.

Warnings in association with the system:

(i) Rainfall Warning

November 17, 2021: Light to moderate rainfall very likely to occur at many places over districts of south coastal Odisha with heavy falls at isolated places over the district of Gajapati and Ganjam.

November 18, 2021: Light to moderate rainfall very likely to occur at many places over districts of south Odisha with heavy falls at isolated places over the district of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, and Ganjam.

(ii) Wind Warning

Squally wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph likely to occur over westcentral adjoining east Bay of Bengal during 16th to 18th and commence, along & off Andhra Pradesh & south Odisha coasts from 17th November 2021.

(iii) Sea Condition

Sea condition will be rough to very rough over west-central during 16th – 18th and along & off Andhra Pradesh & south Odisha coasts on 17th & 18th November 2021.

(iv) Fishermen Warning

Fishermen are advised not to venture into deep sea areas of west-central Bay of Bengal during 16th – 18th November and along & off south Odisha coasts on 17th & 18th November 2021. Fishermen whoever out at Sea are advised to return to coast by 17th November 2021.
