Odisha Vigilance Recovers Additional Rs 1.4 Cr Cash From Asst Engineer’s Sister-In-Law

Bhubaneswar: The officials of the Odisha Vigilance recovered Rs 1.4 crore additional cash belonging to arrested Kartikeswar Roul, Assistant Engineer of the Minor Irrigation Division in Ganjam.

Reportedly, the cash was seized from the house of his second wife’s sister, Kalpana Pradhan, at Salia Sahi in Bhubaneswar.

With this, the total cash seized from Roul and his family members goes to a record of Rs 3,41,66,280.

Adding to it, 354 gm gold and property documents indicating the purchase of a Triplex from M/s Kesari Estate Pvt Ltd at Pokhariput on cash payment of Rs 78,50,000 have also been recovered. The vigilance department discovered this payment from the CCTV footage of the Tata Ariana Complex where he gave the huge amount of cash in a bag. During interrogation on Friday, Kalpana has also confessed the same.

Earlier, Rs 2 crore cash and 20 gold biscuits weighing around 580 gm were recovered during a search which was conducted on the properties linked to Roul following allegations that he had accumulated assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

Previously, assets worth over Rs.2.76 Crores including 2 Flats and 1 double-storeyed building in Bhubaneswar, Bank and Insurance deposits approx Rs.37.23 Lakhs, 7 Plots including 2 plots in the prime area in Bhubaneswar, etc. were unearthed in house search of Roul.

Further investigation is underway by the anti-corruption department.
