Jajpur: Vigilance sleuths on Tuesday arrested a Village Level Worker (VLW) posted at Alakund Panchyat under Bijnharpur block of the district, while accepting bribe of Rs 5000 from a PMAY beneficiary.

“A poor woman, Sumitra Bai of Balikiri Pada village under Alakund Panchyat has been sanctioned a house under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). On March 9, 2018 an amount of Rs 20,000 was credited on her bank account in this regard,” said Jajpur Vigilance DSP Banamali Dhal based on the complaints of Sumitra.

“However, the accused VLW Subash Chandra Samal demanded a bribe of Rs 5,000 from the woman beneficiary and threatened her– if she failed to give him the said amount of money, the house under PMAY would be cancelled,” he added.

On the basis of Sumitra’s complaints, the vigilance sleuths headed by DSP Dhal organised a trap and caught the accused official while he was accepting bribe from the woman at Alkund market.

Later, the vigilance officials also conducted a raid at the official residence of Samal.
