Odisha Vigilance catches Gop IIC red-handed for taking bribe

Puri: Vigilance sleuths on Monday arrested Inspector-in-charge (IIC) of Gop police station in Odisha’s Puri district while taking a bribe of Rs 3000 from a person to settle a dispute.

The accused IIC has been identified as Soumyachit Mishra.

According to reports, a verbal dispute had occurred between two groups in a wedding ceremony held at Oratanda village under Gop police limits few days back. Two separate complaints have also been lodged with Gop police station in this connection.

Mishra had allegedly demanded Rs 5000 bribe from a complainant of one group assuring to settle the dispute. However, the complainant filed a complaint with the Vigilance department against the police official.

On the basis of complaints, the vigilance sleuths today laid a trap and caught the accused official while he was accepting the bribe from the complainant.
