Odisha vigilance arrests Nayagarh assistant engineer, Rs 35K demonetized money recovered

Nayagarh: The Assistant Executive Engineer identified as Rusinath Baral, who worked under the Rural Development department in Ranpur of Nayagarh, has been arrested by Vigilance sleuths today.

Reportedly, Baral was found in possession of 2,70,05,496 disproportionate assets (DA) during the raid on his properties which constituted 397% of his known sources of income. Apart from other recoveries, Rs 35,000 worth of demonetized money (Rs 500 notes) were recovered during the house search.

The Vigilance has unearthed one triple storeyed building at Chandrasekharpur, Bhubaneswar, one single-storeyed building at village Sadangi, Dhenkanal, nine plots including seven plots in Sadangi, Dhenkanal district, one plot at Chandrasekharpur, Bhubaneswar and one plot at Gothpatna, Bhubaneswar, one four-wheeler, one two-wheeler, bank deposits over Rs 44.73 Lakh, insurance deposits over Rs 13.42 Lakh, gold and silver ornaments worth over Rs 9.04 Lakh, cash of Rs 1 30,000/- and other movable and immovable properties in his possession.

As Baral was found in possession of disproportionate assets, which he could not account for satisfactorily, a case has been registered against him and his wife under sections 13(2) r/w 13(1)(b)/12 Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act-2018 at Cuttack Vigilance Police Station.

Baral has been arrested and forwarded to the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Dhenkanal.

Further investigation of the case is underway.
