Baripada: An under trial prisoner, who was arrested in connection with a rape case, escaped while undergoing treatment at PRM Medical College and Hospital here on Saturday.
The accused, identified as Kanhu Charan Marandi of Badasahi block in the district, was lodged at Baripada Circle Jail here on August 25, 2018.
According to reports, Marandi was unwell since last few days. He was admitted to Medicine ward of the hospital on Thursday for his treatment.
However, the accused absconded from the hospital on the pretext of going to washroom at around 4.15 AM today.
A separate case has been lodged at Baripada police station in this regard. A manhunt has been launched to nab the accused, police said.
Meanwhile, the jail authorities suspended two warders, Satyabrata Behera and Manas Ranjan Rout, for dereliction in duty.
