Odisha: Two forest officials suspended over leopard death in Athagarh

Cuttack: Two forest officials were on Friday suspended days after a female leopard was found in Haridapasi jungle of Tigiria under Athagarh Forest Division in Odisha.

Forester Sucharita Samantaray and forest guard Chandan Behera were suspended for laxity in duties.

On Sept 15, the carcass of 10-year-old big cat was first spotted by a woodcutter in the jungle. Later, Forest officials led by Athagarh DFO Sasmita Lenka reached the spot and seized it.

The leopard died after coming in contact with live wires set by poachers in the forest, sources said.
