Bhubaneswar: Truckers in Odisha have decided to go on an indefinite strike from December 15 midnight after a talk between truck owners’ association and State Commerce and Transport Minister Nrusingha Charan Sahu failed on Wednesday.

During the meeting held at Secretariat, the association tabled its 11-point charter of demand including repealment of the decision to levy ‘green tax’ on transporters, setting up truck terminals, and tariff fixation. The association decided to go on with its decision for strike after not getting assurance on none of these three demands.

On the other hand Sahu said the demands of the trucker’s association are under consideration and his department is careful to it. He said the differences would be sorted out soon and the truckers would be appealed to rethink on the stir.

“The meeting was held in the presence of the leaders of the trucker’s association, Transport Commissioner and Principal Secretary of the State Commerce and Transport Department. A few demands of the association are genuine and are under consideration”, said Sahu.

However, the President of the trucker’s association Rabi Satpathy claimed that the minister did not give assurance on any of their demands.

“The talk failed completely and we would go on with the strike from December 15. The transport of goods would be severely affected due to the strike”, said Satpathy.
