Odisha tribal women protest SBI BM’s misbehaviour, demand transfer Daringbadi: Hundreds of tribal women on Friday gheraoed the Daringbadi branch of State Bank of India (SBI) protesting the misbehaviour of the Branch Manager (BM) towards them. They also demanded his immediate transfer from the branch.

According to reports, hundreds of tribal women from different Panchayats of the Block gheraoed the bank alleging BM Kishore Chandra Sethy’s alleged misbehaviour towards them.

Sethy threatened the reporter when the latter reached the spot to cover the story. “Get out of the banks or else I will file robbery case against you,” he threatened the newsmen.

“We were keeping silence over the matter for long. We gathered here today to demand the transfer of BM Kishore Chandra Sethy, whose misconduct has become a great concern for us, especially for the women. Taking advantage of the innocent and ignorance of the tribal women, simply, they make us to stand in queue at the counters one after the other and finally neglect our work saying internet link failure,” alleged one of the protesting women.

The women, who spend the entire day for the work of hardly one hour, also alleged that adequate cash is not being put in the ATM, which also most of the time found closed. Sethy also hesitates to grant study loans meant for the tribal children and does not disburse the scholarships money.

“Our children do not get the study loan or their scholarship provided by the state government. Often we deposit money in our bank accounts. However, they are not being updated in our passbooks. Leaving all works, we come here and stand in line for long. But, the bank officials relax themselves giving excuse of link failure always,” said another protesting woman.

The tribal women threatened that more than 5000 women will gather in the town to intensify their protest, if their demands are not fulfilled.
