Odisha Transport Department begins special drive against MV Rules violation, 218 vehicles fined

Bhubaneswar: As many as 218 vehicles were penalised for not complying with the Motor Vehicle (MV) Act rules in Odisha. The vehicles were penalized during a special drive of the State Transport Authority (STA).

According to reports, the STA carried out a special drive from 8 PM of April 7 to 8 AM of April 8 across the State. A total of 1585 vehicles mostly the hyva tippers, dumpers & other such similar category vehicles carrying sand, fly ash, chips etc. were checked during this special drive of 12 hours.

Out of 1585 vehicles, 218 vehicles were penalised for not complying with the safety standards under chapter VII of the MV Act while 98 vehicles were seized for the MV offences.

Fines were imposed on 110 vehicles which were found to be overloaded while 78 vehicles were driving with excess speed.

During the checking, almost 139 of the drivers were found not having their valid DLs, following which e-challans were issued for the offence.

Fines were also collected from around 64 vehicles which were plying without valid tax, 70 of them did not have a valid permit. Even 75 vehicles did not have valid insurance.

    Great work STA, long pending work of penalty for violators. Should carry out more frequent checks. Even JCBs who drive very recklessly,should be brought to book
