Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government shall soon start the Odisha Chip (O-Chip) program to design and manufacture semiconductor chips. The government will start a swanky facility for semiconductor designing and manufacturing and generate high-end jobs.

The chips will be manufactured in a fabless manner. This means that the company shall design and sell the hardware and semiconductor chips but will not manufacture the silicon wafers, or chips, used in its production.

It is worth mentioning that in the post-Covid era, a major chip shortage had hit almost all the manufacturing sectors. The situation was so bad that the car, mobile manufacturers were forced to sell products without semiconductor chips.

The Russia-Ukraine war also worsened the supply situation of semiconductors market. Since both the countries were vital exporters of raw materials used in the manufacturing of various chipsets, industry players.
