Bhubaneswar: Odisha government announced cash awards for the winning Odia athletes in the ongoing 22nd Asian Athletics Championships on Friday.
The decision of the state government came moments after ace Odia sprinter Dutee Chand bagged bronze in the Women’s 100 meter event at Kalinga Stadium which was witnessed by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
As per the announcement, a gold medalist will get a cash award of Rs 7 lakh while each silver and bronze winner will receive an award of Rs 5.5 lakh and Rs 2.5 lakh respectively.
Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Chandrasarathi Behera made the announcement here last evening after consulting the Chief Minister.
The government will also give special awards to the Odia athletes breaking national and international records.
