Odisha: Three Die After False Plaster Of Septic Tank Collapses In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: As many as three workers died after false plaster of an under-construction septic tank collapsed in Panadara under Mancheswar police limits this afternoon.

Police said that the workers were working on the spot when the false plaster collapsed and the victims remained trapped in the debris.

“Prima facie it appeared that the victims died in suffocation. We rushed to the spot and rescued the victims with fire personnel. We rushed them to the nearest hospital where they were declared received dead,” said a police official.

The deceased have been identified as Samir Munia (35), Basudev Mandal (38) and Bighuram Mandal (32), all hailing from Bengal.

Police said that the incident took place at around 11 am when Samir first entered the septic tank to remove the centring of the tank having a depth of around two feet. Samir also told the two other workers to enter the tank carefully due to waterlogging.

“The trio entered the tank one after another and remained trapped inside it. Later another worker, present near the site and found their sandals. He later informed others who rushed to the spot but failed to rescue them,” said a police official.

Police said that preliminary investigation revealed the deceased of being employed by a Bengal based contractor. “We are trying to identify the owner of the house. He will be summoned to appear before the police,” added the police official.
