Odisha: Third lot of Timber for Chariot Construction reaches Puri

Puri: The third lot of timber for construction of the three chariots reached here today morning. As many as 18 numbers of wood logs have been brought from the Nayagarh forest division in a truck. The lot has 13 pieces of 20 feet long ‘Dhaura’ wood logs and 5 pieces of 12 feet long ‘Asana’ wood logs.

The timber logs will be worshipped with prescribed rituals on the Saraswati Puja (Basanta Panchami) day and subsequently the process for chariot construction will begin. As per the tradition three pieces of Dhaura wood logs will be placed at the Chariot yard (Ratha Khala) on Vasanta Panchami day for worship.

The three chariots of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Goddess Subhadra are called Nandighosha, Taladhwaja and Darpadalana respectively. The chariots will roll on the grand road (Bada Danda) of Puri on the Car festival day 2022.

As per reports, the Chirata Anukula (cutting of the wood logs) will take place in a saw mill of Khapuria in Cuttack on coming Ram Navami day. Besides, the work of chariot construction will begin from the Akshyay Trutiya day. Earlier, 63 wood logs had been brought from Dasapall in two lots.

The truck laden with the holy wood logs reached Puri today morning, but the logs could not be unloaded due to the barricade and some temporary kiosks of the street vendors. As per the directive by the Chariot construction supervisor the Sardar went to Singhadwara and Town Thana to report about unloading of the wood logs. Today, after the kiosks will be shifted, the logs will be unloaded at night.
