Odisha temperature to drop due to Kalabaisakhi, Low pressure area likely to form by May 6

Bhubaneswar: The Kalabaisakhi will be active from today in Odisha, informed informed Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar on Sunday.

Reportedly, the day temperature is likely to drop moderately in several parts of the State.

Adding to it, the weather department also informed that a cyclonic circulation is likely to form on May 4 followed by a low pressure area over the South Andaman Sea and its adjoining areas by May 8.

Earlier on April 30, India Meteorological Department (IMD) DG Mrutyunjay Mohapatra had stated that a cyclone is likely to affect Odisha.

India Meteorological Department (IMD) is closely monitoring the possible formation of a low pressure system over south Andaman sea and adjoining Bay of Bengal in the month of May, and its possible intensification into a cyclone.

It is pertinent to mention that a yellow warning has been issued for isolated thunderstorm with lightning to Dhenkanal, Angul, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Nabarangpur, Koraput, and Malkangiri from 8.30 of May 1 till 8.30 of May 2.

Similarly, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Keonjhar, Gajapati and Rayagada districts have been warned for isolated thunderstorm with lightning along with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph.
