Odisha Teachers’ strike to continue

Bhubaneswar: The ongoing agitation of the Odisha School College Teachers’ and Employees’ United Forum will continue as the inter-ministerial meeting held today ended inconclusively.

The teachers have decided to intensify their strike to meet their demands.

“Our discussion with the Ministers was unsuccessful. They wanted three months of time to resolve our issues. But we asked them to resolve it in seven days which could have been done only in a day or two. Therefore, our strike will continue till our demands are fulfilled,” said Golak Nayak Convener of All Odisha School College Teachers and Employees’ United Forum.

“They are asking us time only to pass the time so that the code of conduct will come into effect. This is Odisha government’s cleaver attempt to set aside the issue. But we are not going to give them time any more. If they want the students not the suffer and us to go to the school then they would resolve the issue at the earliest” said Teachers and Employees United Forum convener Prakash Mohanty.

On the other hand, School and Mass Education Minister Badri Patra along with the Finance Minister Shashi Bhusan Behera urged the teachers to withdraw strike and sought time to consider their demands.

“We asked the teachers to withdraw stir and give three-months time to constitute a steering committee to review,” said Patra to media after the meeting.

Notably, the teachers have been agitating at lower PMG here seeking fulfillment of their several demands.
