Odisha targets to complete Covid vaccination drive by December 2021

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government is targeting to complete vaccination drive by December this year, informed Director of Health and Family Welfare Department, Bijay Panigrahi.

If vaccines were in stock, the administration of two doses would be completed in the next four months, informed Director.

The Covid vaccination is currently underway across the State since January 16, 2021. So far, 2.20 crore doses of vaccines have been administered to beneficiaries. While 1.66 crore beneficiaries have received the first dose, 53 lakh people have been fully vaccinated in the state.

The top health official said that both Covaxin and Covishield vaccines are in stock. Currently, there are 28.54 lakh Covishield doses and 4.54 lakh Covaxin doses are available in the State.

All  the districts have been ordered to administer second jabs to the beneficiaries on priority basis. Odisha government has set a deadline for vaccinating all teachers and non-teaching faculties by September 5 for which dedicated vaccination centres have been set up to fulfill the purpose,” he said.

As per reports, the vaccination process is underway at over 1400 centres. Over a lakh pregnant women have also been vaccinated, Panigrahi stated.

Panigrahi said that while around 8 % of children were infected during the first wave of COVID, the figure in the second wave stood at 10%.

Regarding a new Covid variant, the Family Welfare Director said that there is no clear data available on C 1.2 Covid mutant.
