Odisha: Suspended Dy Manager Samal’s property crosses Rs 15 cr as Vigilance unearths his investment in stocks market

Bhubaneswar: Suspended Deputy Manager of Odisha Police Housing Welfare Corporation (OPHWC), Pratap Samal’s property reportedly crossed Rs 15 crore as the Odisha Vigilance unearthed his investment in the stock market.

The Vigilance sleuths found out over Rs 1 Crore more illegal money which Samal invested in the share market. The official came to know about it after seizing documents relating to investments.

According to the documents seized by the anti-corruption team, Samal invested Rs 1,07,37,831.74 in the stock market.

This is in addition to Rs 14.88 Crore worth properties and cash of the accused which were already seized by the Vigilance during raids.

It is to be noted here that the Vigilance officials arrested Pratap Samal on Wednesday on charges of amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

Notably, the investigating agency found his Ollywood link as he had signed an agreement to produce a film soon in Odisha.

Reports said that Samal has produced two Odia movies using his black money. In both the movies, his wife Sasmita Samal was the producer while Samal was the producer in one of the cinema.

Before arresting him on Wednesday, the Vigilance sleuths had already detected his assets and property to the tune of Rs 14,88,91,194. The relative standard deviation (RSD) value of 25 plots that have been unearthed is Rs 3.41 crore.

Court sent him to judicial custody till November 23.

Meanwhile, the Odisha government suspended him from his duty.
