Odisha: Konark’s Sun Temple reopens today after 11 days

Bhubaneswar: Part of the Odisha’s magical ‘golden triad’, world-famous Sun Temple of Konark reopened for its visitors on Tuesday after remaining closed for 11 days.

After Cyclone Fani hit on May 3, the temple administrators had closed the Konark temple till further notice.

Archaeological Survey of India’s DG made an inspection of the temple and deemed it safe for reopening. He also added that 13th-century CE sun temple suffered no major damage apart from about 10-12 trees in temple complex getting uprooted. However, the electrification might take some time for restoration. And hence the current visitors will have to miss the mesmerizing light and music show scheduled during the evenings.

As done previously, the token system was back for visitors wanting to enter the temple complex.

The severe cyclonic storm Fani had left the Puri, Khurda and Cuttack district in batters. While the restoration of power is underway, the internet connectivity is still fluctuating.
