Odisha STF seizes elephant tusks, 1 arrested in Balangir

Balangir: The Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha police on Thursday arrested a wildlife criminal on charges of possessing elephant tusks in Balangir.

The arrested accused has been identified as Nurin Set, son of Late Dhobal Set of Malpada village under Malpada police limits.

On basis of reliable information regarding dealing/possession of wildlife products, the STF officials conducted a raid along with the help of Bolangir Forest Officials near Malpada.

During search six of elephant tusks weighing 09 kg (Approx) and other incriminating materials were recovered from his possession.

The accused person could not produce any authority in support of the possession of such Elephant Tusks, for which he has been detained and handed over to Bolangir Forest Officials under Balangir Forest Division for necessary legal action on their end.

Special drive against the wildlife criminals/poachers is continuing. Since 2020, STF has seized as many as 27 Nos. of leopard skin, 24 Nos. of elephant task, 7 Nos. of deer skins, 13 Nos. of live pangolin, 30 kg 400 gm of pangolin scales, 2 Nos. of leopard teeth, 29 Nos. of leopard claws, 46 Nos. of live wild parrot with arrest of 67 Nos. of wildlife criminals.

Further investigation into the criminal act is underway.

    Sir,
    I have heard about the new policy of free education for kids who lost both parents due to COVID. I know a child who lost his father due to COVID (father occupation- Shepard, mom working as security guard for a mango farm). He lost his father to covid, his mom is still alive but can’t afford to study his children. Plz let me know if there is any way you can help him. Will he be eligible for the free education. if not then is there any way to help him to get good education.
