Odisha State Cabinet Meeting to be held today

Bhubaneswar: The State Cabinet’s first meeting has been scheduled to be held today under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to discuss matters regarding the upcoming Panchayat Election. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 11.45 am.

Reportedly, the Panchayat Election notice is likely to be issued any time after the first week of January 2022. The Odisha Election Commission has called for an all-party meeting on January 10 to discuss important issues regarding the panchayat polls.

As many as 11 proposals of the Departments of Agriculture, Water Resources, Panchayati Raj, Urban Development, and Public Works are likely to be approved.

Earlier on December 31, nine proposals were approved in the last State Cabinet Meeting.

Jaga Mission for five municipal corporation areas of the State got Odisha Cabinet nod. The state government will provide land to slum dwellers. As many as 1.9 lakh families in 938 slums will be benefited due to this approval.

The Cabinet also approved the proposal to provide grant-in-aid under the 7th Pay Commission to eligible teaching and non-teaching staff of new aided non-government High Schools, UP Schools, Madrasas, informed Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mahapatra. The salary hike will cost the state exchequer an additional Rs 292 crore, he added.

Odisha Cabinet also approved a proposal to amend Grama Panchayat Act, Panchayat Samiti Act, Zilla Parishad Act. A provision of penal action against candidates filing false affidavits has also been included.
