Odisha SRC alerts 18 district Collectors over possible cyclone

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Special Relief Commissioner (SRC)-cum-Development Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Jena today reviewed preparedness for the possible cyclone brewing in the Bay of Bengal.

Jena held the review meeting with the collectors of 18 districts, which are likely to be affected by the cyclone, if it heads towards the State.

As of now, the picture of the possible cyclone and its impact on Odisha is not clear. This will be known by tomorrow evening. However, the State government is fully prepared to deal with the possible event, said the SRC while speaking to the media persons after his meeting.

He said that the district collectors will come up with details and plans by tomorrow evening following which further instructions will be issued to them.

Besides, he had a separate meeting with officials of NDRF, ODRAF and Odisha Fire Service. As many as 17 teams of the NDRF, 20 of ODRAF, and 175 Fire Service teams are ready to tackle the possible cyclone, he informed.

The SRC also advised the Principal Secretaries of Energy, Housing and Urban Development, and Panchayati Raj & Drinking Water to lay priority on energy restoration and drinking water supply, in the aftermath of the possible cyclone.

He also appealed to the public not to get panic or hoard essential commodities. The SRC instructed the Municipal Commissioners and Collectors to take strict action against traders who hoard essential commodities or sell those at higher prices.
