Odisha: Speeding truck kills standard III girl student in Jajpur

Jajpur: A standard-III girl student was killed when a truck mowed her down on NH-53 near Mangalpur under Sukinda Police limits in Odisha’s Jajpur district on Monday.

The deceased has been identified as Devjani, daughter of Jayaram Purti of Mangalpur. She was studying at Mangalpur UP School.

According to reports, Devjani was returning from Mangalpur UP School after her school hours when the truck hit her from behind. She died on the spot.

Angry locals beat the truck driver black and blue. They also staged road blockade on the NH demanding adequate compensation for the kin of the deceased.

On being informed Sukinda police reached the spot and rescued the truck driver from the mob. They seized the body and sent it to the hospital for autopsy test. They also pacified the protestors.

Vehicular movement on the NH was affected for a few hours due to the road blockade.
