Odisha: Six Girls Swept Away In Mahanadi, Five Rescued

Sambalpur: As many as six minor girls were swept away in Mahanadi river near Badabazar in the district today.

While five girls were rescued by locals and Fire Service personnel, one girl, identified as Pinki Biswakarma, was missing till last reports came in.

Eyewitnesses said that the incident took place while the group of girls was taking a bath in the river. “One of them was initially swept away following which others tried to rescue her. But they were also dragged in the current,” said an eyewitness.

The locals later informed the Fire Service personnel which immediately rushed to the spot and managed to rescue five of them.
