Odisha signs MoU with Vedanta for Medical College in Kalahandi

Bhubaneswar: Odisha government on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Vedanta Group to set up a Medical College and Hospital in Bhawanipatna of Kalahandi district.

Director of Medical Education & Training (DMET) of the state government Sonamali Bag and Director of Corporate Strategy of Vedanta Rahul Sharma inked the MoU for a 500-bedded Medical College and Hospital.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, State Health and Family Welfare Minister Pratap Jena and others were present during signing of the agreement.

As per the agreement, the proposed medical college will be set up with cost of Rs 350 crore, of which Vedanta will spend around Rs 100 crore.

While the state government will run the medical college and hospital, Vedanta will develop infrastructure support for it.

Official sources said that as many as 100 MBBS seats will be available in the Medical College which is expected to be completed within two years.
