Odisha SEC issues notification to hold fresh elections for candidates whose nominations were rejected or not filed

Bhubaneswar: The State Election Commission issued notice to hold fresh elections to the Wards and Sarpanches, Panchayat Samiti Constituencies, and Zilla Parishad Constituencies where no nominations were filed or all the nominations were rejected, informed SEC Aditya Prasad Padhi.

Reportedly, the State Election Commission has issued a notice to file the nomination again. A statutory notice will be issued on January 27, 2022 following which the nominations will be submitted from January 29 to January 31.

Thereafter, the nominations will be scrutinized on February 1, 2022, and the final list of candidates will be released on February 4.

The nominations for more than 4,000 ward members, 4 to 6 sarpanches, and committee members will be submitted.

The current Covid situation of the State is being monitored according to which the guidelines will be decided for the election campaigning, said SEC Aditya Prasad Padhi.

It is to be noted that on January 23, the nomination of as many as 8648 candidates including 5544 Ward Member candidates, 1753 Sarpanch candidates, 1119 P.S Member candidates, and 232 Z.P Member candidates for the upcoming panchayat polls in Odisha were rejected.
