Journalist sprotestBhubaneswar: Over hundreds of journalists from different media organisations on Monday staged a road blockade near AG Square here, protesting against alleged assault on working journalists by traffic constable in the city.

Sumit and Bijaylakshmi, journalists with leading Odia Daily ‘Dharitri’, were beaten by a traffic police near the PMG Square traffic post after a mild altercation over a traffic rule violation.

“We demand stringent action against the traffic constable who assaulted me for not obeying his silly instructions near the PMG Square,” said Bijaylakshmi.

“If the traffic police behave like this with the journalists in the capital city, it is quite imaginable how they behave with common people”, she said adding that the Chief Minister should intervene into the matter.

DCP Satyabrata Bhoi rushed the spot and pacified the protestors by assuring action in the case.

Meanwhile, an FIR has been lodged against the traffic constable.
