Odisha Scientist Discovers Band-Aid With Turmeric, Helps Faster Healing

Bhubaneswar: A senior scientist Sanjeeb Sahoo of Institute of Life Sciences (ILS) based in Bhubaneswar has developed a turmeric bandage that is believed to assist heal wounds faster.

It is to be noted that the wounds of the diabetic patients will heal faster with the help of this band aid. It is an age-old believe that turmeric has the antimicrobial properties which helps to heal wounds faster.

Scientist Sahoo says that there are several research papers on which says that turmeric can heal diabetic wounds. He is hopeful that in future he will be able to prove that this bandage can help cure diabetic wounds.

According to Sahoo, biodegradable Chitosan and Alginate polymer have been used within the bandage. It can be utilized in accidents, blood clots and even burn wounds.

The polymer developed by Sahoo is non-toxic, biodegradable and biocompatible. The bandage is very thin and it will gradually be absorbed in the wound and the wound will heal automatically added Sahoo.

The patent of the know-how has been registered in 4 nations – India, US, Europe and Australia. Recently, ILS signed an settlement with a non-public firm to make these bandages available in the market.
