Odisha retired teacher seats on dharna on Teachers’ DayBhubaneswar:  While teachers across the country are being worshiped by their students, a retired teacher sat on a dharna in front of the School and Mass Education Minister Badri Narayn Patra’s residence to press his demand on the occasion of the Teachers’ Day here on Tuesday.

Trilocahan Mohapatra, who had retired as  Head Master in 2007, claimed that he was promoted to the post of Head Master in 1997. However, the Director Public Instruction (DPI) had quashed the order of his promotion. Mohapatra had moved the State Administrative Tribunal (SAT) against the decision, which gave its verdict supporting the teacher. Nevertheless, he gets the pension of an assistant teacher rather than that of HM.

“I retired 11 years ago as Head Master. But I got the pension as an assistant teacher and not as a headmaster. While others moved the SAT, High Court and Supreme Court and got justice, why should not I get the same?  The SAT’s order was also in my favour. If my demand is not fulfilled, I will intensify my strike on a daily basis,” alleged the retired teacher.

On the other hand, the Minister said that Mohapatra’s matter will be solved in the near future.

“I had requested him not to sit on dharna, but he sat on dharna without waiting.  The state government will look into the matter and take appropriate action in this regard,” said Patra.
