Odisha Residents Can Now Apply Driving Licence In Any RTO

Bhubaneswar: Citizens can now apply for grant of learning licence, driving licence or registration of vehicle in any Regional Transport Office (RTO) in Odisha.

This was today notified by the State Transport Authority (STA). Earlier one could apply these only to the concerned RTO in whose jurisdiction the applicant was residing or had business. “The RTO region wise restriction has been removed as per amended MV Act,” said an official.

As per the notification by the STA the applicants need to file documents showing proof of resident of Odisha. “The RTOs should not debar any person in getting learners licence, final driving licence and registration of motor vehicles on the ground that he is not residing within the jurisdiction of respective RTO,” read the notification.

In a related development Transport department has issued as many as 3. 51 lakh learning licences in the months of September and November. The number is significantly high as the department has issued 3.48 lakh learning licences in 2018.  

Transport officials said that the process of issue of learning licences has been expedited after the amended MV Act was implemented in the state from September 1.
