Bargarh: An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Odisha police has been suspended following a rape allegation against him. The suspended police official has been identified as Banmali Kuanr, the ASI of Sohela police station in the district.
Bargarh SP Mukesh Kumar Bhamo informed that Banmali has been put under suspension after family members of a Class 10th girl student alleged that he raped the girl whom a youth named Kaibalya Nag alias Riku had kidnapped.
While Nag has been arrested, Banmali is on the run, added the SP.
According to reports, Nag had kidnapped the minor girl while she was going to Tunugapali for tuition. He then sheltered the girl in the rented house of the ASI with his permission and raped her forcefully. Later, he abandoned the girl by locking her in the house. Sometime later, pretending to help her, Kuanra took the girl to his official residence and allegedly sexually assaulted her.
After learning about the matter, the minor girl’s father had lodged an FIR against the accused.
Further investigation into the matter is underway.
